The Treasure Of...

(text-colour:magenta)[Let Us Begin...] There lies rumors a treasure that is supposed to grant whoever finds it their deepest wish. How did you discover the map? [[ I bargained for it]] [[ I stole it]] [[ I found it in a set of ruins]]

You work well with your mind. Interesting. (text-colour:lime)[This earns you a guide. ] [[ Go meet your guide at the entrance to the jungle.]]

You are cunning. How intriguing. (text-colour:red)[This earns you a dagger.] [[ Let's go on ahead...]]

You're resourceful. Well done. (text-colour:yellow)[This earns you a compass.] [[ Follow where it leads...]]

You arrive at the entrance to the jungle. In your hand, the compass points (text-colour:purple)[north], to where a path deeper into the woods lies. At the last second, it suddenly turns (text-colour:blue)[east], where there's a clearing up ahead. (text-colour:lime)[Which do you go?] [[ North]] [[ East]]

You arrive at the entrance of the jungle. Out of the shadows, a (text-colour:yellow)[cheetah] steps forward, staring at you. (text-colour:orange)[What do you do?] [[ Ask "are you my guide?"]] [[ Go to attack]]

You arrive at the entrance to the jungle. The echoes of wild animals and sounds unknown to man call from inside. You keep your dagger close to you and walk forward. You make your way through the darkness and the shadows, when a scream is heard. Someone is in trouble! What will you do? [[ Go help them, of course!]] [[ No way, that could be a trap! Let's keep moving!]]

The cheetah gives a nod, and it turns into the jungle, walking away. [[ You follow it]]

The cheetah growls at you, and reaches up and (text-colour:red)[''slashes''] your arm! You have lost it completely! The cheetah gives one final growl before it leaves. Ok, I translated cheetah, and it said, (text-colour:yellow)["that's the last time I try to help out a human."] Oops... that //was// your guide. And now you one-armed.... Uh... [[ Let's keep moving?]]

The path leads you through the (text-colour:grey)[deepest] part of the forest. You can't help but wonder if the sounds you're hearing around you are(text-colour:red)[ real or not. ] Your compass suddenly begins to spin like crazy. There's something buried underneath you. (text-colour:orange)[What do you do?] [[ Dig!]] [[ Keep moving, your compass will be fine]]

Down the path you walk, holding the compass in your hand. The needle won't keep still, spinning in circles in your palm. (text-colour:magenta)[Was this really the right way?] Suddenly, (text-colour:orange)[a monkey] jumped out from the trees, screeching and hollering at the top of its lungs! It pounces on you, landing on your shoulders. It stole your compass and ran into the jungle! Quick, no time to lose! [[Run after it!]]

It's a young woman, cornered against a rock by an approaching (text-colour:yellow)[mountain lion]. (text-colour:red)[It looks hungry...] What do you do? [[Throw one of your granola bars at it!]] [[You throw a rock at it]]

The screams and cries continue for a few minutes, until they suddenly(text-colour:red)[ halt.] (text-colour:yellow)[Then something grabs your arm.] [[ turn around to see]] [[You use your dagger]]

You stumble through the jungle, bloody and exhausted. You try to follow where the map leads, but your hazy mind doesn't know if you're going left or right. You then spot some small mountain lion cubs drinking from a stream. Wait, doesn't the map say to find a waterfall? [[You follow the stream]]

The cheetah doesn't look back at you as it keeps making its way through the jungle. (text-colour:orange)[Howling from monkeys ]and (text-colour:green)[hissings from snakes] echo all around. The cheetah turns around at last to look at you, as if (text-colour:purple)[waiting for something.] (text-colour:magenta)[What do you do?] [[ Ask "are you waiting for a snack?"]] [[ Ask "what do we do now?]]

It's a (text-colour:grey)[metal key]! Perhaps it will unlock the treasure! (text-colour:cyan)[(We had the map this whole time, and no key to what we were looking for? Oops!)] Anyway, [[let's keep moving]]

The trees begin looking alike... haven't you passed this bush before? Is the sun starting to go down, or is the jungle suddenly becoming darker...? A branch breaks nearby. Someone... or something... is coming... [[Investigate]]

The cheetah looks ahead, towards a beautiful waterfall. It looks like there's something behind it. The cheetah then looks back at you. The message is clear: this is where you part ways. You thank the cheetah, who gives a single nod. He then walks up to you and shakes his head. From his fur escapes a (text-colour:green)[green key. ] Could this lead to the treasure? The cheetah vanishes before you could figure it out. [[Step through the waterfall]]

The cheetah's ear twitches at your remark. You get out a granola bar and hold it out. The creature eats it in one bite, looking very pleased. [[ Ask "what do we do now?]]

It's a ghost of a woman. "I was murdered nearby," she rasps, "and you did nothing... why should you reach your destination?" Uh oh... [[RUN]]

Your dagger goes straight through their head. It's the ghost of a woman, who growls at your attack. "First you ignore my murder, then you attack me...?" Uh oh... [[RUN]]

An elephant walks past you in its slow glory. You watch it in silent awe as it takes a drink near a stream. Wait, didn't the map say that a waterfall should lead to the treasure? The elephant walks ahead, giving you space to move. [[You run ahead]]

(text-colour:grey)[An elephant] walks through the trees, slowly and with determination. It stops when it sees you, watching you with unblinking eyes. It reaches its trunk down, wrapping it around your torso. The elephant lifts you onto its back, and continues walking. It takes you to a stream where a (text-colour:cyan)[beautiful waterfall] is. The elephant puts you down, and it gives a mighty roar. It then lowers its trunk, holding a (text-colour:grey)[metal key] out for you. Could this lead to the treasure? [[Take the key]]

You fall about 60 feet into the pond below (whew) and hold your breath, hoping to trick the ghost into thinking you died. (text-colour:purple)[Would the ghost expect you to become a ghost? Hopefully not.] After 30 seconds, you rise back to the surface. No ghost, no screaming. You do, however, see the dead body by the shoreline that looks exactly like the ghost, scratched up from what seem like claw marks. In her hand is a (text-colour:red)[red marble key.] Could it lead to the treasure? [[Take it]]

(text-colour:red)[Your shoulders are grabbed from behind. A sound of an inhumane screech fills your ears before the world goes] (text-colour:grey)[dark.....] Looks like you didn't survive this journey.... (text-colour:yellow)[Let's Go Back to Where [[The Hunt Begins]]... And Remember to Help When You Can... ]

The mountain lion gets distracted by the noise, allowing the woman to flee away, running towards you. Both of you keep running until you're certain the creature isn't following. "Thank you!" The woman says. "My name is Marcy. I was on an expedition when I got separated from my group." She sees the map in your hands and gasps. "Are you after the treasure? I got the key!" She pulls out a (text-colour:red)[red marble key. ] "Let's work together to find the chest!" [[Why not, she's got the key, let's go!]] [[Hmmm, debate over fighting for the key...]]

The mountain lion growls and turns to you, anger in its eyes. It charges at you, but you already have your dagger ready. You stab it through the head, and it's dead in an instant. The woman nearly buckles in relief, and she rushes over to you. "Thank you! I thought I was a goner! My name's Marcy. I was separated from my expedition group and I've been lost ever since." She sees the map in your hand and gasps. "No way! You have the map to the treasure?! I have the key!" She pulls out a (text-colour:red)[red marble key]. "Let's work together to find the treasure!" [[Why not, she's got the key, let's go!]] [[Hmmm, debate over fighting for the key...]]

(text-colour:cyan)[The waterfall is in sight.] Thank god, because you think you're about to pass out... Hey, is it the blood loss talking, or is there something behind that waterfall? [[ Crawl forward...]]

You continue through the jungle together, eating some of Marcy's snacks, and she even treats some bruises you gained on your adventure. Turns out, Marcy is funny, really smart, a little clumsy, but has stated multiple times that she has your back with the biggest puppy dog eyes you've ever seen. You're still slightly suspicious of a betrayal, but... you'd forgotten what it was like to have (text-colour:magenta)[a friend...] Before long, you two find a (text-colour:cyan)[beautiful waterfall,] and it looks like (text-colour:navy)[there's something behind it.] "That's the cave where the treasure is!" Marcy cheers. She hands you (text-colour:red)[the red marble key]. "You do the honors. I'll be waiting out here." You look at this stranger who has been nothing but nice to you. [[ Ask "do you want to come with me?"]] [[Go forward]]

You remember how you got the map yourself, after all. How do you know (text-colour:purple)[you can trust her? ] "Please?" Marcy begs. She pulls off her giant backpack. "I got food, water, a first-aid kit, the works! I won't be a bother! Please please //please???//" Geez, she's annoying. [[Why not, she's got the key, let's go!]]

Marcy gives a squeal and rushes forward, but then she trips over a rock and stumbles into a ditch near the water. It's a few seconds of silence before she speaks again. "On second thought, I'll just hang out in here! You go get that treasure!" What a weirdo. You may love her. [[Go forward]]

The elephant walks away, and you turn back to (text-colour:cyan)[the waterfall.] Your compass points directly at it. It looks like there's (text-colour:grey)[something behind it...] [[You follow its lead]]

You come across the waterfall, and the compass begins pointing directly to it. There's something inside... [[You follow its lead]]

You try opening the stone chest. (text-colour:red)[This does nothing.] You try opening the wooden chest. (text-colour:red)[This does nothing.] You try opening the golden chest. (text-colour:yellow)[It opens.] The glowing light coming from inside is from a blue book. Picking it up, it surrounds you like a (text-colour:yellow)[warm embrace.] You flip through the pages of the book, reading the contents inside, until all you see is a brilliant bright white. [[Then...]]

(text-colour:yellow)[When the glow dies down,] you feel knowledge flowing through your mind, overwhelming but at the same time welcoming. You know the cure to cancer. The answer to world hunger. The secret of the universe itself. No answer is a mystery to you. You know all. [[So...]]

(text-colour:grey)[A silver sword with an obsidian handle] is in your grasp, and each angle you turn the sword shows a (text-colour:red)[dark red glow.] You've heard rumors of this sword. The power it holds. How whoever had wielded this sword would never lose a battle. People have massacred for this sword. And now it's yours. (text-colour:orange)[A tiny cheetah cub is curled up inside, whimpering with its eyes closed. Is this why your guide was a cheetah? Was there more than meets the eye? Carefully, you pick up the little creature, cradling it like a baby. It opens its eyes and gives a little meow, as if happy it is found.] As soon as it meows, its eyes begin to (text-colour:yellow)[glow]. There is definitely a secret about this cub, a secret you will learn overtime. [[Walk back outside]]

On the other side of the water lies a cave. The walls are as smooth as glass, and inside lie three treasure chests. One is made of stone, hidden so deep in the shadows that you can't quite see it. One is made of wood, and moving around as if there's something alive inside. One is made of gold, with something shimmering with bright light from inside. (text-colour:green)[You glance at your key the color of [[Green]]]

You try opening the stone chest. (text-colour:red)[This doesn't open.] You try opening the wooden chest. (text-colour:yellow)[It opens.] [[Inside....]]

Your guide, (text-colour:orange)[the cheetah], is waiting for you. Seeing the cub in your arms, it almost seems relieved. It walks over and gently licks the head of the cub. The little creature gives off a purr, and the (text-colour:yellow)[glow] returns. The cheetah turns to look at you, and then walks ahead. The message is clear: (text-colour:purple)[Come with me.] You're about to learn more than you've ever known, and as the cub snuggles into your chest, you feel the (text-colour:magenta)[warmth in your chest growing.] You are led to a hidden grove of the forest, where more cheetahs walk over to you, see the cub you're holding, and (text-colour:navy)[bow as one.] (text-colour:orange)[Looks like the ancient kingdom of the Wise Cheetahs have welcomed you to their home.] (text-colour:cyan)[You're not alone anymore.] (text-colour:lime)[Congratulaions, wanderer... You crawl across the ground, using your only arm and your legs to move. You look at the other chests in the room. You have the dagger, and picking locks are easy. Who says you can't have all the treasure you see? In the knife goes into the golden chest. Gold is usually good, (text-colour:yellow)[right?] The minute your dagger touches the golden lock, (text-colour:red)[everything begins to shake.] The ground, the walls, even the chests in front of you. The sword melts out of your hand, as if made of wax. Out of all three chests, swarms of darkness and fire erupt and surround you. The last thing you hear is Marcy's (text-colour:red)[screams of terror....] (text-colour:grey)[ You could've walked away.... Let's Go Back to Where [[The Hunt Begins]] And Try Again.... Through the bushes you run, pushing past branches and vines. You can see the monkey leaping from tree to tree, your compass still in his mouth. Finally, it lands in front of a stream, staring at you as you catch up. The monkey holds your compass over the stream. One move, and it will be gone for good. Plan your next move carefully... [[ Bribe the monkey with one of your snacks in your backpack]] [[Charge at the monkey]]

The monkey looks at your granola bar, and takes it out of your hands. Unwrapping the treat, it eats it in one go. Seemingly satisfied, it hands you back the compass, but then its tail holds something else out for you. (text-colour:grey)[It's a metal key.] Could this lead to the treasure? The monkey walks away, and your compass leads you forward (as long as you keep the key away from it.) [[Up ahead...]]

God, what were you thinking? Do you even THINK it's a good idea to charge at a monkey? Words can't describe how (text-colour:red)[gruesome] that turns out. Long story short, you didn't make it... (text-colour:grey)[Let's Try This Again, to Where [[The Hunt Begins]], and Remember to Use Your Head! ]

You hear the ghost (text-colour:orange)[scream] as you flee, thorns and branches (text-colour:red)[scratching] your arms as you try to escape. There's a clearing up ahead, but as you run closer, you see (text-colour:green)[it's a cliff]. You can still hear the ghost (text-colour:orange)[screaming] after you. Oh geez.... [[Jump]]

(text-colour:navy)[A waterfall stands in all its glory.] The compass points ahead, appearing to be towards the waterfall itself. Way to go!" She pulls a compass out of her backpack and looks at it. "I can lead us out of the jungle in no time. Wait until the world sees what we found together! And who knows, maybe we can find another treasure together! What do you say?" [[Yes]] [[No]]

You can't lie, the girl's grown on you. It's truly been a while since you felt like you could have a friend you can actually trust. That was how the two greatest treasure hunters in the world had met in a jungle, whose stories only continued.
